Decreasing trend of tropical cyclone-induced ocean warming in recent decades

چکیده
Abstract Tropical cyclones (TCs) can influence climate by pumping heat into the ocean, yet little is known about how TC-induced ocean uptake (OHU) has changed in recent decades. Based on reanalysis, we calculated OHU and found a significant decline of from 1982 to 2018. If all gain balanced poleward transport, approximately 15% peak transport would have been reduced during study period. The decreasing trend consistent with enhanced stratification, shallowed mixed layer depth cold wake size. reduction primarily occurs Northwest Pacific, where shortened TC lifespan contributes as well. Furthermore, might offset 28% upper warming subtropical Pacific.

Decreasing trend of tropical cyclone frequency in 228-year high-resolution AGCM simulations
[1] We conducted 228-year long, three-member ensemble simulations using a high resolution (60 km grid size) global atmosphere model, MRI-AGCM3.2, with prescribed sea surface temperature and greenhouse gases and aerosols from 1872 to 2099. We found a clear decreasing trend of global tropical cyclone (TC) frequency throughout the 228 years of the simulation. We also found a significant multidecad...

متن کاملGlobal warming shifts Pacific tropical cyclone location
[1] A global high‐resolution (∼40 km) atmospheric general circulation model (ECHAM5 T319) is used to investigate the change of tropical cyclone frequency in the North Pacific under global warming. A time slice method is used in which sea surface temperature fields derived from a lower‐ resolution coupled model run under the 20C3M (in which historical greenhouse gases in 20th century were prescr...
متن کاملResponse of tropical cyclone potential intensity over the north Indian Ocean to global warming
[1] The responses of tropical cyclone (TC) potential intensity (PI) and the associated environmental control parameters over the North Indian Ocean (NIO) to the doubled CO2 concentration are assessed based on the ensemble simulation from 15 coupled general circulation models (CGCMs) participated in the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) Forth Assessment Report (AR4). The results ...
متن کاملChange in ocean subsurface environment to suppress tropical cyclone intensification under global warming
Tropical cyclones (TCs) are hazardous natural disasters. Because TC intensification is significantly controlled by atmosphere and ocean environments, changes in these environments may cause changes in TC intensity. Changes in surface and subsurface ocean conditions can both influence a TC's intensification. Regarding global warming, minimal exploration of the subsurface ocean has been undertake...
